BAF Essential Training Accreditation Scheme
The British Abrasives Federation (BAF) has launched a new and essential Training Accreditation Scheme, which allows organisations to provide training in the safe use of abrasives, in order to raise the standard of training throughout industries using abrasive products.
Abrasive products improperly used can cause fatal accidents. However, certificated training in the safe and correct way of handling and using abrasives can remove this hazard from the work place. Saving time, money and most importantly improving safety within the working environment. There is a legal requirement that abrasive safety training is carried out with the UK, however this can be provided by anyone, irrespective of experience, knowledge or skill. This has resulted in total inconsistency in abrasive training. Through being a BAF accredited training company you will be able to ensure your operator training course is up to date regarding all changes in abrasive standards and changes within the abrasive industry.
The BAF Training Accreditation Scheme identifies and accredits only those organisations that conduct operator abrasives safety training to the highest possible standards and differentiate them from the less professional offerings.
Accreditation will only be given to those organisations that can demonstrate a high standard of expertise in abrasive safety, whose course content and literature meets the BAF criteria. The advantage of being an accredited training organisation will be the provision of training updates throughout the period of accreditation and being part of a national training register of accredited training providers available to those seeking abrasive safety training.
The BAF is the trade association for manufacturers of abrasive products; its members include some of the largest abrasive companies in the world. BAF has strong links with The Federation of European Producers of Abrasives (FEPA) and also non-European Federations and abrasive manufacturers. Using the combined knowledge of its members, BAF are able provide the most comprehensive services and publications to the abrasives and grinding industry.
The BAF not only provides a service to its members but also offers advice, information, high quality publications and safety recommendations to anyone involved in using abrasive products, from the general public to multi-national organisations, from self-employed tradesmen to professional engineers, from the DIY enthusiast to abrasive applications experts.
One of the prime objectives of the BAF is to promote safety in the design; manufacture and use of abrasives and its members actively participate in the production and revision of National (BSI), European (CEN) and International (ISO) standards for abrasives. It also has strong links with the Health & Safety Executive.
